    Joon-Sung Jun - cello

    Cellist Joon Sung Jun has become a faculty member of CSULB in 2007 and he has been a cello professor and chairperson for instrument at Shepherd University since 2002. Prof.Jun has done all of his studies at University of Southern California under Eleonore Schoenfeld and has continued studying with Gerhard Mantel, David Soyer, Lynn Harrell, and more. As a professor he has given master classes in the U.S, Asia, Europe, and has taught and lectured in chamber music ensemble and literature in such institutes like California State University of Los Angeles, Pusan University, Dong-I University, Kyung Sung University, Kazakhstan National Music Conservatory, and more..

    As a concert soloist Professor Jun has given hundreds concert with solo appearance in concertos by Bach, Beethoven, Bloch, Boccherini, Brahms, Dvorak, Elgar, Goltermann, Haydn, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky with various orchestras such as Kazakhstan National Philharmonic, Uol San Symphony, Ma San Symphony, Pusan Symphony, Korean Philharmonic, Catholic Boys Town, , Symphonieta, Korean American Symphony (KAYS), and with KAYS, he did his Disney Hall debut concert with Beethoven Triple Concerto in 2007.  He has collaborated concertos, chamber music and orchestral symphonies with Issac Stern, Yo Yo ma, John Perry, Yefim Bornfman, Ivry Gitlis, and under the baton with Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Simon Rattle, Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa Pekka Salonenand and more. His live concerts have been broadcasted on TV and Radio stations such as PBS, KCET, KBS, MBC and 91.5 KUSC.

    Prof.Jun has numbers of cello students who have won 1st prize in competitions such as, Kollaboration Classical Competition, South Coast Symphony Concerto Competition, Marina Del Ray-Westchester Symphony Young Artist Competition, Brentwood Westwood Symphony Young Artist Competition, Torrance Symphony Concerto Competition, PSYO Concerto Competition, Music teacher’s National Association Solo Competition, American String Teachers Association Solo Competition, Los Angeles Violoncello Society Competition, Edith Knox Young Artists’ Showcase competition and numbers of orchestra auditions. His students also have been accepted prestigious colleges as a full scholarship student such as Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University, Yale, Peabody, UCLA, USC, and more.  In his home land, South Korea, he has a contract to be a soloist and give Master Classes with the Prestige Youth Orchestras as their principal professor through out the country every year. 

    He also has taught and performed with in major festivals in Kazakhstan, Italy, France, New York, Beverly Hills, and Montecito.
